The Fabric of Sisterhood

A few weeks ago, I decided to do something I never thought I’d do in college: I joined a sorority. After being at home for a month with my own family, I was hit pretty hard with the patented “second semester homesickness.”  I felt that I was really missing that sense of “family” while I was at school. After an entire semester seeing my best friend hanging out with all of her sisters, as well as seeing the work they were doing on campus, I could see that sisterhood was something I wanted to be a part of.

As I’ve been going through the new member process the past few weeks, I’ve made so many good memories. These girls have woven me into their lives with unconditional love, saying hello to me between classes and sending me sweet messages on my bad days. That’s the thing I love about this new aspect in my life: having someone there for you, all the time, no matter what.

I think sisterhood creates such a strong bond between college girls, especially those who are in need of a “school family.” We can all relate to one another during the rough times, but we can also laugh together during the good times. This bond also teaches us how to love and understand everyone around us, not just our sisters.

Even though it’s only been a few weeks, I can already see the difference joining a sorority has made in my life. I’m more involved on campus, more aware of my time management skills, even more focused in my classes.  These girls have created a support system for me, and I can’t wait to see where life takes us next.

We’re Listening: Montreat 2015

It’s no secret that Montreat, North Carolina is one of my favorite places that I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting. For the past six years, I’ve looked forward to that glorious week in July in which I’d travel with my youth group to visit our house in the mountains. While I still got to
